Trail 1: MODERATE—.9 mile. Joins with Trail 2 for a short distance to return to near Lodge. Leads through wooded land where oak, hickory, sassafras, beech and maple may be observed.
Trail 2: MODERATE—2 miles. Civilian Conservation Corps built trail with many impressive stone bridges, stairways, and retaining walls. Starts and ends behind the lodge. Passes near Lower Shelter and North Lookout Tower.
Trail 3: MODERATE—1.25 miles. An interesting trail to observe a variety of topography. Passes saddle barn and amphitheater to return to the lodge. Varieties of ferns can be seen in the ravines and on the slopes.
Trail 4: MODERATE—1.25 miles. Starts near the front of the rally campground and leads through upland terrain to a deep ravine at the headwaters of Ogle Lake. Joins Trail 7 for short distance. Meets with Trail 5 to return to trailhead.
Trail 5: RUGGED—.75 mile. A self-guiding nature trail through Ogle Hollow Nature Preserve. Starts near the parking lot for Rally Campground and proceeds down a wooded slope where yellowwood trees exist. Makes a loop through the nature preserve. Intersects with Trail 4 from Ogle Lake.
Trail 6: EASY—.75 mile. Easy walk around Strahl Lake. A steep MODERATE .5 mile spur to the Nature Center.
Trail 7: MODERATE—1.5 miles. A hilly, wooded habitat enables the hiker to explore the shores of Ogle Lake
Trail 8: MODERATE—3.5 miles. Extends eastward from West Lookout, continues to near Hesitation Point, and then southwest to parking area at Ogle Lake & Trail 7.
Trail 9: RUGGED—3.0 /2.75 miles. Starts near Site 324 in Taylor Ridge Campground. No parking available at trailhead. Travels ridgetop beyond campground, dropping into adjacent valley to follow stream for some distance before looping back to ridgetop. Hike the 2.75 mile extension that connects to Trail 7 near Ogle Lake.
Trail 10: RUGGED—2.2 miles. Follows ridge behind Firetower before looping northward crossing deep ravines and hilltops. Passes small shelter built by C.C.C. |
